Dog Sledding!

While we're on the subject of WINTER... We also have a Dog Sled Team we call Akwanok Outfitters, LLC and we partner with Stratton Mountain Resort to give guests tours on their beautiful Nordic trails.

Let me introduce you to our leader - Tanto on your left and Yukon on your right.  Behind them is Tanto's brother, Max.  Next I see Joey and LB (named such because she likes her groceries).  We have 12 team members and we typically run eight at a time on tours.

These boys and girls love to pull people in a sled!  It's what they do....I compare it to a retriever who likes to retrieve stuff...or like a hound who likes to track....these doggies LOVE to pull and RUN and work as a team!  They love people and the attention.  When Cory opens up the yard, they run right up to his truck and excitedly get ready to load in their transport boxes.

We have been SUPER DUPER busy and we are headed into our busiest week of the year - President's week.  We offer evening tours - Full moon is the BEST!

Cory runs the business and drives the team!  Fifteen years ago while living in Jackson Hole, WY, Cory and I both loved the idea of having a dog sled operation.  Follow your dreams!

Ski Coach!

Gee Whiz!  I haven't posted for about five months!  I had a stinkin' busy autumn of home births, then the HOLIDAYZ, then ski season kicked in!

After two births around Christmas, I have been OFF CALL for the remainder of winter.  I'm liking the short break in pressure that call status brings.  But I'm hoping some pregnant women come into my midwifery practice soon who are due this summer!

MEANWHILE... I've been skiing.  A LOT.  I love skiing.  I raced as a teen and coached while I was in college.  The stats on my season's pass suggest I have more than 70 days on snow this year.  I'm not sure how that's actually possible.  But I have been on the mountain a LOT.

I started out the season as a coach in the masters program (adult racers or adults who want to ski more like racers). I was then moved into U10s.  These are mostly 8 and 9 year olds.  I have a consistent group of nine year old boys to rip around with.  These are great little skiers who push my buttons every single weekend day, but I love 'em.

Here is a photo of them goofing around while we practice our one-ski skiing.  They're super cute when they're being silly.

Ciao!

Stratton Mountain, Vermont

It has been a while since I've written...  This is where we spent our winter. It was a very busy winter.

I love this place.  {Sigh}

I hate this place.  {Sigh}.

I really like this place an awful lot.
It was a lot of 5am alarm mornings and hard work standing around on the hill.

STRATTON MOUNTAIN, VT.

It was my second season exclusively skiing this mountain.
After a few minutes of grieving mountain hopping, my family settled in to the Stratton Community.  We met some really cool people and made a lot of new friends.

There is this cool Euro-village at the base including a penny candy store that the kids can stroll into apre ski.

This is where my 12 and 10 year olds SEIZED their independence. No, not the candy store, silly.  The MOUNTAIN...

It is a GREAT family winter destination resort.  So much to offer children.
I was a new addition to the weekend race coaching staff.
The eldest two children gave ski racing a try.  They liked it.

Husband gave dog sled tours right at the mountain.

That was very cool...
Already looking to next winter season.
...While sunbathing in Vermont's unseasonable 80 degree weather in mid-March.

Thank you Stratton!
